Delivering this care is a team effort by every dedicated member of the Dulcimer family. We appreciate the many patients you have trusted us with their health needs. Dulcimer is still running at full speed! Here is the scoop!

The Coronavirus Pandemic has made this a most uncertain and challenging time. For most of us it is unprecedented. My primary concern is the health and safety of everyone in our community. This is especially true for our dedicated employees and their families, for all of our patients and their families, and our many friends both near and far.

We are doing our part to help prevent the spread of the COVID-19 virus. We closely monitor all updates and recommendations from the Center for Disease Control, as well as other Federal, State and Local authorities. Here are some of the specific measures our Dulcimer Team is taking in response to the Pandemic:
1. All staff is required to check their temperature as they report to work. If elevated, they are evaluated and treated accordingly and then sent home to recover.
2. We have designated certain exam rooms for well patients requiring office evaluations or treatment, other rooms are reserved for ill patients. ALL rooms are cleaned after every patient visit regardless of whether they were sick or well. We have removed all toys from the waiting room and exam room to reduce the potential of transmission from those surfaces.
3. We have separate areas in the waiting room for sick and well patients. However, we have asked all sick patients to check in by phone with the receptionist from their car. When a room is available, they are called by our receptionist and a nurse will meet them at the front door with a mask, and they are immediately escorted back to one of the designated rooms for sick patients. This has worked well and serves to decrease the risk of any cross contamination. Ill patients requiring lab work are drawn in their exam room, so they do not sit alongside the healthy in our lab waiting area.
4. The government has changed the rules regarding Telemedicine visits given the current crisis and we will soon be able to offer that on a wider basis through either a mobile phone or other computer interface.
5. We have sufficient supplies for testing for the COVID-19 virus and have been taking samples daily from appropriate patients. We generally would not test asymptomatic patients, but anyone with suspicious symptoms or clinical findings may be tested. Results are now back in three days. All sick patients should remain in self quarantine till the results are known and they are fully recovered from that virus or others as the case may be.
Here are our current recommendations:
1. Observe recommendations to socially distance from others to slow the spread of the virus. It is more contagious than Influenza and more serious than influenza, which has already claimed over 36,000 lives this season. WASH your hands frequently and keep them away from your face.
2. Get plenty of rest. Fatigue leaves you more vulnerable to infection. Several supplements are known to bolster your immune system. For many adults up to 3000 mg of vitamin C daily in divided doses, Vitamin D3 5-10,000 IU daily, Zinc picolinate 50 mg daily, Selenium 100 mcg daily along with Magnesium glycinate to replace that lost due to stress.
3. If you think you were exposed, but have no symptoms, stay home. A recent article in the Journal Science showed that 86% of people with corona virus are walking around undetected. These are the people that are driving the spread of the infection. Testing is not helpful until you begin to show symptoms as you will not shed the virus at first. Common symptoms include, but are not limited to sore throat, fever, cough, fatigue and body aches and pains. Sneezing is not a common symptom. Runny nose and diarrhea can occur.
4. If you are sick, call our office for the latest recommendations. As noted above if you are given an appointment for evaluation, remain in your car upon arrival and notify our desk that you are here. A nurse will meet you at the door with a mask.
5. If you are in severe distress go to the emergency room or call 911 for further assistance.
At Dulcimer we are committed to caring for you. Things change on an almost daily basis. We appreciate your patience as we try to stay ahead of this infection and keep our patients and staff healthy.
With Deep Appreciation for your continued support and prayers,
Steven Parnell MD
President
